If you're using iTunes 7.0 check here for the iPod 101: Backing Up Your Library
The following instructions will work for earlier versions of iTunes.
For To make a backup copy (or archive) of all your audio files, or to transfer them to another computer. You can "burn" a CD or DVD with any of the music or audio content in your iTunes library.
To burn a DVD, your computer should have an internal CD-RW or DVD-RW and Mac OS X version 10.2.4 or later or compatible Windows XP/2000. Some third-party DVD burners may also work.
You can store about 650 MB of files ( about 160, 4 minute songs) on a CD and up to 800 4 minute songs on a DVD.
To create a backup of your iTunes music library and put it on CD or DVD:
1. Choose iTunes > Preferences,2. Choose Data CD as the Disc Format
- Click the Advanced button
- Click Burning.
3. Create a playlist that includes all the items you want to back up and then make sure a checkmark appears beside each item.
- Click OK.
4. Select the playlist you want to burn to the CD or DVD
- You can only burn a CD or DVD from the songs in a playlist, and only the checked items are included.
- If the playlist contains more songs than will fit on one CD or DVD, iTunes will burn as many songs as will fit on one disc, and then ask you to insert another disc to continue burning the remaining songs. (You can see the size of the selected playlist at the bottom of the iTunes window.)
5. Insert a blank CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, or DVD-RW disc
- Click the Burn Disc button
- Click Burn Disc again
Please Note:
Any audio files in the playlist (MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV, Audible) are copied to the CD or DVD.
Data CDs play on your computer, but may not play in some CD or DVD players. It is as simple as that and a reccomended proceedure to protect your music
Look here for commercial services for loading your CDs to iPod they'll do it for you, especially good when you have more than 100 or so CDs to convert.
Save your old vinyl record collection and Convert LPs to MP3 and Convert Cassettes to MP3 too !
