iPod error 1429 fix

After reading a suggestion posted here I tried disconnecting all other devices from my Mac but still had no luck. Any way I can go in and keep it from opening some other way?

I sent it back to Apple and it needs a new hard drive. Is it just me, or does it seem strange that these iPods have a life of about a year before they go bad?
