Neccessary equipment for working out with your iPod
We get frequent questions about using your iPod while you work out. Is it OK to use a Video iPod while running, how can I hold my iPod while I workout, which earphones are best for an active workout? What are the choices, price range and features that are important?
Since armbands are useful and almost essential for those of us working out on regular basis - we collected that information and put it here armbands and wristbands.
As far as using your hard disk based Video iPod while you run or are very active, all we can say is some of us have been doing that for past few years without ill effect. That said, we still harbor a suspicion that the flash based Nano and Shuffle are better suited for running your next marathon. No moving parts seems better some how - current evidence aside. The earphones you select for your workout are probably as important as the armband you use. Important in your selection process are:
- Fit and comfort, working out can be uncomfortable enough without adding chaffing earbuds to the mix.
- Do they stay in, nothing worse than constantly catching them as they fall out.
- In ear canal models or headphones
- Soft buds or hard like those that came with earlier iPods
- Cable length,is it manageble.
- Can you clean the earbuds.
- Price, hey you want to work out with with earphones that cost you 200 bucks? -

These may work for you depending on the size of your ears, they clip around your ears and sort of hang there. Sound is good, no cables, priced right and since they don't block out all sound probably better for running outside where hearing the traffic noise around you is important for your safety. - Editors

If you already own a pair of the original hard shell type earphones then earjams might be an inexpensive solution to your work out whoes. I know I can't wear those hard cased ear canal earphones on a treadmill. So just snap these over those hard shells and fit them to your ear.
