New - How to replace your iPod battery - do it yourself iPod repair

First, some basic tips on getting the most from the iPod battery you have. Check Apple Battery FAQ
Wondering why your battery won't charge after leaving it plugged in all night. Check iPod Battery Won't Charge

Apple iPod battery tips:

Heat - keep your iPod out of the sun or a hot car (even the glove box). Heat degrades your battery’s performance the most. Keep your iPod comfy:
Operating temperature range:
32° - 95° F (0° - 35° C)
Storage temperature range:
-4° - 113° F (-20° - 45° C)

Hold and Pause - Set iPod’s hold switch when you aren’t using it. This way your iPod won't wake up accidently and use power. Turn it off by pressing the play button for two seconds.

Backlight - Only use it when necessary. “Always on” will significantly reduce your battery life.

Equalizer - Adding EQs to playback uses more of your iPod processor. Turn EQ off if you don’t use it. If, however, you’ve added EQ to tracks in iTunes, you’ll need to set EQ to “flat” in order to have the effect of “off,”.

Use Your iPod Regularly - Charge the battery every 14 to 18 days when not in use. Even when the iPod is off it is in a sleeping state that requires power. Without use, iPod's battery needs to be charged about every 14 to 18 days to be ready for use.

iPod Battery Replacement

Apple's iPod battery replacement plan includes replacement coverage for a defective battery (FREE when you have owned your iPod less than one year). During the second year, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $59, plus $6.95 shipping.
