Search songs on an attached iPod via regular expressions and copy them either to a single folder or a tree of folders on your local machine. Songs can be searched with various attributes, like title, artist or album. Playlists are currently not yet supported, but are on the wishlist.
Serious technical issues and a reliance on the Python programming environment that isn't well implemented makes this a product that is best avoided.

Who needs a PDA when you have an iPod? Transfer your PIM data to your iPod so it's available whenever you need it; iPDA supports transferring information from Entourage, Stickies, Mail, Address Book and iCal, and web based calendaring systems such as Google Calendar. You can transfer Word, PDF, Pages, RTF and text documents for quick access and reading on the go. You can even download RSS feeds, weather forecasts and news headlines directly to your iPod.
We rate it in the middle. Many users have had great experiences with this software. Adjectives such as "Awesome!" are often seen, along with "can't live without"...However others have had intermittent issues, mostly with Mail. Furthermore, bug releases are slow to be made. ZappTek is a small shop and has limited resources - and even Apple can take a long time to resolve PDA sync issues...The problem is that once you've committed to this tool as part of your workflow, you depend on it.

Nicely crafted product at a reasonable price, Pod2Go is a good acquisition for a well-rounded iPod utility.It imports data from the web to your iPod - Weather, stock, etc - and included a basic backup utility.Furthermore, it allows retrieval of lyrics for any song on your iPod and imports them as well. Support is rated excellent. Best of breed product.Product has been re-released in 2006 as Life2Go.

PodQuest, Mibasoft
Download driving directions to your iPod. PodQuest installs a menu in the upper right corner of your menu bar. The menu gives you quick access to the driving directions from MapQuest. When you have found your driving directions, you select "Download Directions To iPod" from the PodQuest menu.
Creator Michael Balle-Pedersen joined the Apple team on December 4, 2006 - and moved from Denmark to Cupertino. We wish him luck! Sadly, it means that Mibasoft shareware products are no longer available to purchase or download.This is rather unfortunate because, while having some technical issues at times, PodQuest offered pretty much one-of-a-kind integration with Google Maps. However, we can probably assume that Micheal's work saw integration in the iPhone's new features. All was not lost.

Transfer text-based notes into your iPod that can be read just like Contacts directly on the iPod's screen. Podtext is able to transfer the complete Macintosh charset including characters used in German, French, Italian or other foreign languages. While other apps max out at 1000 characters per note; Podtext can extend that limit to 2000 characters.
Pretty cool and free utility to bring reading material to your iPod. It works well, does what it claims to do, is stable - and the price is right.

iSpeak It, ZappTek
Listen to your documents on your iPod. Take any document or RSS feed and convert it into an MP3/AAC track in iTunes using your Mac's built-in text-to-speech capabilities (check out our TTS page if you'd like to find better voices). Download news, weather forecasts and driving directions. From there it's a quick sync to your iPod and away you go!
Not a bad idea - and not a bad implementation of that idea. However, similar solutions are available cheaper, if not free. Nor does it change the fact that, at least until 10.5 is released, the built-in text-to-speech voices are atrocious. Then again: It may be a boon to those with vision impairment, bad voices and all.Version 3.0 of iSpeak It adds Xgrid support to harness the power of multiple Macs to convert sections of a document into audio tracks. That feature at least puts iSpeak It a notch above other contenders for large jobs.

Application for copying songs from your iPod back to your Macintosh. Unlike some other iPod applications on the market today iPod Access utilizes the iPods internal database to display song information. By using the database song listings can be displayed instantly, playlist data can be viewed, and songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store can be displayed properly. Aside from minor user interface issues - window resizing etc. - iPod Browser works as advertised. It is a clean and simple application with little frills and chills - it just works.Since it is free - it's hard to complain.
